Town of Glen Lyn issued the following announcement on Aug. 5
Preparations are well underway for the 2021 Muddy ACCE Race and those beneficiaries of the event, the ACCE Students, wanted to introduce themselves to you. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight a few of these ACCE students. ACCE stands for Access to Community College Education and is a program designed to provide tuition scholarships to New River Community College to Giles County graduates. The Muddy ACCE Race is a primary fundraiser to support the program. Here we have Madison Wright, a recent graduate and current volunteer with the Tourism Marketing Office of Giles County. All ACCE students have volunteer hour requirements as part of their successful enrollment in the program. In her volunteer time with Giles County Madison has been coordinating the social media accounts of the Muddy ACCE Race!
Q: Please tell us a little bit about yourself. A: My name is Madison Wright and I just graduated from Giles High School. I am attending New River Community College in the fall for a general studies degree. I am going to college through the ACCE program which makes this tuition free. After college I plan to obtain a real estate license.
Q: How did you participate in the ACCE Program? A: I am a student in the ACCE program. I will be helping and encouraging those who are running the race. I will also be thanking everyone who is there for helping obtain tuition free college.
Q: Why did you get involved with the Access to Community College Education program? A: I got involved in the ACCE program because I had seen many friends who had graduated prior to me do it. I knew I wanted to go to community college before anything so the ACCE program was impossible to turn down.
Q: What is the one thing you’ll take away from the ACCE program or MAR event? A: I will always be thankful for the sponsors and supporters of this program making it possible for me to go to community college tuition free.
Q: If you could share a sentiment to those considering the program, perhaps as a student- what would you tell them? A: I would tell them how much of a positive impact ACCE has made on me. With the struggles of the last year I had felt very disconnected with my community. The service hours that I have completed thus far have already made me feel more connected again. Not only has it brought me closer to the community but also with my fellow ACCE students.
