Volleyball Wraps Up Home Schedule Versus Rhode Island

The George Mason women's volleyball team will wrap up their home schedule this weekend when it welcomes the Rams of Rhode Island to the RAC.

The Rams hold a 3-12 all-time conference record over the Patriots, but the two teams have split their last two matches, with each of their wins coming in their home arena. Last year on Oct. 23 in Fairfax, Mason won their first ever straight set match over Rhode Island.

URI is coming off two losses in straight-sets to A-10 undefeated Loyola Chicago at home while GMU is coming off a 3-1 loss to George Washington on the road. Both teams' last victory was over Duquesne, as they both split their matches with the Dukes.

PATRIOT POINTS

  • Sophomore Olyvia Kennedy recorded her ninth double-digit kill performance of 2022 on Tuesday to bring her season total to a team-high 215.
  • Meanwhile, senior Mujay Mambu recorded her eighth double-digit kill performance of the year during Tuesday's match and is now averaging 2.71 kills/set, good for 10th in the A-10.
  • Also leading the Mason offense is graduate student Peyton Ehmke. The middle blocker has tallied 121 kills at a .292 efficiency, a hitting percentage that sits at 7th overall in the conference. She is also averaging just under a block per set with 81.0 total (6th, A-10).
  • Senior Stephanie Der is averaging an A-10-fourth-best 4.31 digs/set after notching 22 digs in two out of the last three matches.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

The Rams are currently led offensively by Brynne Wright, who has amassed a team-best 215 kills so far in 2022. Just behind her is Claire Wagner, who sits at third in the conference, averaging 3.43 kills/set (192 total). Defensively, Hannah Blaney leads Rhode Island with 352 digs to go along with 32 service aces and Gabrielle Shilling has totaled 75.0 total blocks.

Prior to the start of Saturday's match, the George Mason women's volleyball team will honor its' five seniors in the 2023 class: Jewel Clark, Stephanie Der, Yanira Lopez-Barahona, Mujay Mambu and Christina Walker.

UP NEXT

Mason will get back on the road to begin a four-match road trip to end the season. The Patriots will travel to Davidson, N.C. to take on the Wildcats on Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
