Virginia Tech Undergraduate Student Senate’s (USS) second annual inauguration is set to take place on Oct. 19.
“Everyone is welcome,” said Mallory Fields, student advisor and co-coordinator of the inauguration, “We encourage anyone in the Hokie Community with an interest in the event to come.”
The inauguration is scheduled to take place on the second floor of Squires Student Center in the Commonwealth Ballroom. Doors are set to open at 6 p.m. The official ceremony will start at 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, guests will be asked to check in at the USS tables outside of the Commonwealth Ballroom. Virginia Tech students should bring their Hokie Passports for check in.
For the first time, attendees will have the opportunity to hear current USS President Caroline Lohr deliver the Hokie Address to the student body and elected senate members. Other presenters include Fields; Kat Nelson, deputy director for the USS; and a soon-to-be announced guest speaker.
“Our inauguration is a pivotal moment for newly elected officials,” said Mikey Ventura, USS elections commissioner and director of membership development, “They are sworn in and officially become a member of the USS. It is a celebration and a ceremony.”
The USS will welcome 17 senators at-large, 28 college senators, 15 university-chartered student organization senators and seven cabinet members to serve for the 2022-2023 academic year. The cabinet members include: incumbents President Lohr, a senior majoring in psychology; and Vice President of Issues and Policy, Ainsley Cragin, a sophomore studying multimedia journalism; and first-time members, Board of Visitors Representative, Jamal Ross, a senior majoring in political science and philosophy, politics and economics; Vice President for Shared Governance, Seunghcan Jeong, a sophomore studying industrial and systems engineering; Vice President of Administration, Eireann Maybach, a sophomore studying political science and communications; Vice President of Equity and Inclusion, O’Brian Martin, a freshman studying business; and Vice President of Finance, Sam Yuzbashev, a freshman studying finance.
Immediately following the inauguration, audience members are invited to stay for the reception and mingle with the newly inaugurated senate, while enjoying light refreshments courtesy of the USS. The reception will follow in the Commonwealth Ballroom.
Some senate seats are still vacant. Students interested in joining the USS as College or At-Large Senators can do so by filling out this form. Position descriptions are included on the form.
