Radford University’s women’s basketball team secured a decisive 95-54 win over Presbyterian in their final regular season home game at the Dedmon Center. The victory was highlighted by Joi Williams reaching the milestone of 1,000 career points, becoming the 25th player in program history to do so. Williams needed 15 points to achieve this mark and finished with 18.
Georgia Simonsen contributed a career-high 24 points, shooting 12-of-16 from the field. Angelina Nice also scored in double figures with 19 points. Radford’s offense was efficient throughout the game, as the team shot a season-best 60 percent from the floor and surpassed the 90-point mark for a second consecutive game against NCAA Division I opponents—a feat last accomplished by Radford during the 1995-96 season.
The Blue Hose started strong, scoring nine of the first eleven points. However, Radford responded with a significant run led by Simonsen and Williams. By halftime, Radford had established a commanding lead following another scoring surge that included Williams’ milestone free throws and three-pointers.
In the second half, Radford continued to extend its advantage with contributions from multiple players including Anna Stromberg and Cherish Haywood. The fourth quarter saw further dominance from Haywood and Ava Sawi as Radford crossed the 90-point threshold late in the game.
Head Coach Mike McGuire commented on both the team’s performance and Williams’ achievement: “It’s good to get the last one of the regular season here,” opened Head Coach Mike McGuire in the postgame press conference. “I thought we got better as the game went on. Obviously a good offensive performance. It’s back-to-back games of over 90 points. It’s the first time (against DI opponents) since I think 1996. That’s a huge credit for our team for just continuing to get better offensively. It’s a special night for Joi too. For her getting her 1,000 point in the Dedmon Center. Super proud of her and all the work she’s put in. I don’t think people realize how much work she’s put in to position herself to do that and how much she’s grown. Since she’s got here as a freshman she continues to get better each year. So, that’s exciting. It’s a great night for our team and for Joi.”
Radford will conclude its regular season on Saturday at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
