Virginia Tech Hokies women’s tennis lost 4-0 to No. 36 Stanford on April 3 in Stanford, California.

The result marked a setback for the Hokies as they faced a strong opponent on the road. The match began with doubles play, where Arina Gamretkaia and Özlem Uslu, ranked No. 45 nationally, secured a win over Alyssa Ahn and Caroline Driscoll with a score of 6-3. Despite this victory, Virginia Tech was unable to capture the overall doubles point.

Mila Mulready and Linda Ziets-Segura also competed closely in their doubles match but were defeated by their opponents with an identical score of 6-3. In singles competition, Stanford won three matches in straight sets to clinch the overall victory and sweep the contest.

Although trailing after singles play began, several Virginia Tech players continued fighting from behind in their second sets before the match was decided.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will continue its West Coast trip by traveling to face Cal on Sunday, April 5 at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time (10:30 a.m. Pacific Time).
