The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team was eliminated from the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship after a 4-2 defeat against No. 33 Stanford on Wednesday afternoon, April 15.

The match began well for Virginia Tech in doubles play. Elizaveta Castillo and Alston Myatt secured a 6-2 win, followed by No. 54 Arina Gamretkaia and Özlem Uslu also posting a 6-2 victory on Court 1.

In singles competition, Özlem Uslu delivered a strong performance with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win over No. 25 Monika Ekstrand of Stanford. However, the Hokies faced challenges on Courts 2, 3, and 4 where they were swept by their opponents and struggled to claim more than two games in any set.

The deciding point came as Alston Myatt fell to Stanford’s Sein Myoung in straight sets (7-5, 6-4) on Court 5. Meanwhile, Linda Ziets-Segura was attempting a comeback after dropping her first set but winning the second; her match was abandoned while she trailed slightly in the third set at a score of 2-6, 6-3, and down one game.

With this result at Cary, North Carolina, Virginia Tech concludes its season following their second-round exit from the tournament.
