The Virginia Tech Hokies women’s tennis team lost 4-0 to the University of Miami Hurricanes on March 20 in Coral Gables, Florida.

The match was significant as it marked the return of Alston Myatt and Özlem Uslu to the lineup after the team played short-handed against Clemson on March 14. Their presence brought the Hokies back to full strength for this contest.

In doubles play, Arina Gamretkaia and Uslu, ranked No. 41, secured a win with a 6-1 victory over Miami’s top duo. However, Virginia Tech dropped matches on Courts 2 and 3, allowing Miami to claim the doubles point. In singles competition, Myatt, Uslu, and Mila Mulready were defeated in straight sets, which clinched the overall match for Miami.

At the time the match was called, Linda Ziets-Segura had split her first two sets on Court 6 and was competing in a third set. Elizaveta Castillo had won her first set, while Gamretkaia was engaged in a second-set tiebreaker.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will travel to Tallahassee for a match against Florida State University scheduled for Sunday, March 22 at noon.
