Virginia Tech won both games of a midweek doubleheader against Longwood on March 18 at Bank of the James Stadium. The Hokies, ranked No. 12/14, took the first game 12-0 in five innings and followed up with a 7-1 victory in the second game.

The sweep is significant as it continues Virginia Tech’s strong season performance, improving their record to 25-4. The team also extended its all-time record against Longwood to 27-12 and secured its ninth run-rule win and fourth shutout of the year.

In the first game, Rachel Castine contributed early with a sacrifice fly and later added a two-RBI single during a five-run fourth inning. Michelle Chatfield and Kylie Aldridge helped extend the lead after an error by Longwood, while Jordan Bishop delivered a pinch-hit two-RBI single. Avery Layton pitched four innings, allowing just one hit, while Addyson Fisher closed out the game in relief.

The second game saw Longwood score first, but Virginia Tech responded with key hits from Jordan Lynch and Addison Foster. Zoe Yaeger hit her seventh home run of the season—a three-run shot—to give the Hokies a comfortable lead. Foster added her fifth home run in the sixth inning, and Lynch hit her eighth homer in the seventh. Bree Carrico entered as pitcher with the score tied and recorded a career-high ten strikeouts over four innings to earn her sixth win of the year.

Game notes highlight that Virginia Tech outhit Longwood in both games and remains undefeated this season when scoring ten or more runs. Game one was notable for being only the fifth time this season that Virginia Tech did not hit any home runs.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will host NC State for its home opening series from March 20 to March 22 at Tech Softball Park in Blacksburg. All three games are scheduled to be televised on ACC Network Extra.
