Virginia Tech’s softball team concluded its season on May 17 after a 7-2 defeat to Louisiana State University in the Baton Rouge Regional Final at Tiger Park.
The game marked the end of a successful run for Virginia Tech, which finished with a record of 48-12 and reached its seventh consecutive NCAA Regional. The Hokies held an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning when Addison Foster hit a double and was brought home by Jordan Lynch’s RBI single. Foster contributed again in the second inning, extending the lead to 2-0 with an RBI single that allowed Annika Rohs to score.
However, LSU responded by scoring seven unanswered runs across the third, fifth, and sixth innings. The Tigers took control in the third inning with four runs from a home run, a two-RBI single, and a double. Additional runs were added by LSU in later innings following walks and timely hits.
According to game notes released after the match, this season saw Virginia Tech achieve its highest win total under head coach Pete D’Amour. It was also noted that Foster set a new single-season doubles record for the team with her leadoff double and now has 20 doubles on the year. She is nine hits away from reaching 200 career hits. Lynch ended her sophomore year surpassing 150 career hits while Bree Carrico suffered only her second loss of the season but maintained an impressive record of 15 wins and two losses along with a 1.88 earned run average.
The conclusion of this game marks another deep postseason appearance for Virginia Tech under D’Amour’s leadership.
