No. 10 Virginia Tech lost to Georgia Tech, 6-2, in the second game of their series on April 18 at Tech Softball Park.
The result marks a setback for Virginia Tech as they continue their Atlantic Coast Conference campaign. The Hokies now hold a record of 38-7 overall and 12-5 in conference play, while Georgia Tech improved to 28-23 overall and 9-11 in the ACC.
Georgia Tech took an early lead with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning and added another solo home run in the third to go up by three runs. Virginia Tech responded in the bottom of the third when Annika Rohs and Jordan Lynch singled, Nora Abromavage walked to load the bases, and Zoe Yaeger drew a bases-loaded walk for their first run.
The score remained close until Georgia Tech scored three more runs in the sixth inning with a single that brought home two runners after ricocheting off Avery Layton’s ankles. Another run was added on an infield single, making it a five-run lead for Georgia Tech. Virginia Tech attempted a rally in the seventh inning as Rohs scored on Abromavage’s sacrifice fly but could only bring one run across before falling short.
Game notes indicate this was Virginia Tech’s first loss by four or more runs this season. It was also only the fourth time they were outhit by an opponent this year, and they had not allowed ten or more hits since May 3, 2025 against Florida State. Rohs led all Hokies with two hits—her seventh multi-hit game of the season—while Bree Carrico moved to a record of twelve wins and one loss. Layton allowed just four hits over four innings of relief with three strikeouts.
Virginia Tech will face Georgia Tech again Sunday, April 19 at noon at home for the series finale.
