The No. 11/12 Virginia Tech Hokies defeated Radford University 7-2 in a softball game at Radford Softball Park on April 7.

The victory adds to Virginia Tech’s strong season record, bringing them to 34 wins and just five losses. The win also marks the team’s 50th all-time victory over Radford, highlighting their historical dominance in this matchup.

Addison Foster started the game with a leadoff home run, her sixth of the season, giving the Hokies an early lead. Pitcher Avery Layton kept Radford scoreless through two innings with three strikeouts. In the third inning, Virginia Tech scored five runs after consecutive hits from Foster and Jordan Lynch, followed by doubles from Nora Abromavage and Michelle Chatfield. Kylie Aldridge then hit her sixth home run of the year to extend the lead.

Radford managed one run in the bottom of the third but could not close the gap as Chatfield hit another solo home run for Virginia Tech in the fifth inning. Layton pitched five innings with four strikeouts before Sophie Kleiman finished out the final two innings for Virginia Tech.

The Hokies have now outhit their opponents in 37 out of their last 39 games played this season. Chatfield reached her milestone of 150 career hits during this game and now has eight home runs on the year. Aldridge has homered three times in her past three games while Foster recorded her sixth homerun as well.

Virginia Tech will next face Virginia from April 10-12 in Charlottesville as part of their Commonwealth Clash series.
