Virginia Tech lost to North Carolina 4-0 in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Tennis Championship on Apr. 15.

The result ends Virginia Tech’s run in the tournament, as North Carolina secured a decisive victory by clinching both doubles and singles matches.

North Carolina began by taking the doubles point with wins on Courts No. 1 and No. 2. In singles play, Virginia Tech’s Patrik Jurina started strong with a first-set win over Roan Jones but was unable to finish his match as play was abandoned after the overall result was decided. The Tar Heels won on Court No. 5 and then Court No. 4, giving them a commanding lead at 3-0.

Ilyas Fahim of Virginia Tech split sets with Chris Xu, but their match was also left unfinished when North Carolina clinched victory on Court No. 6 through Kase Schinnerer’s tiebreaker win over Blake Hilsen.

The final tally saw Niels Ratiu defeat Drew Fishback and Constantinos Djakouris defeat Julian Lozano for North Carolina, while several other matches were halted once UNC had secured enough points for the team win.

The outcome marks an early exit for Virginia Tech from this year’s ACC Championship.
