The Virginia Tech Hokies men’s tennis team lost to No. 3 ranked Virginia on April 9 in their final regular season match, with a score of 4-0 in the Commonwealth Clash, presented by Smithfield.

This result is significant as it marks the end of the Hokies’ regular season and contributes one point to Virginia’s total in the Commonwealth Clash series. The current overall score for the series stands at 12.0-4.0 in favor of Virginia.

Virginia secured the doubles point after winning matches on Courts No. 1 and No. 2, while Drew Fishback and Frank Thompson made a notable effort on Court No. 3 by coming back from a five-game deficit before their match was left unfinished at a close score of 4-5 when the doubles point was decided.

In singles play, senior Julian Lozano competed in his last home match and managed to win five consecutive games after being down in his second set against Stiles Brockett, tying their unfinished contest at one set each when play concluded (0-6, 7-5). Blake Hilsen also led during his second set (4-6, 3-2) before that match was halted due to clinching rules. Fishback played competitively as well, trailing narrowly at completion (4-6, 5-6).

The Cavaliers won matches on all three front courts: Dylan Dietrich defeated Ilyas Fahim (6-2, 6-4), Keegan Rice bested Patrik Jurina (6-1, 6-2), and Andres Santamarta Roig overcame Eyal Shumilov (6-0, 6-4). In doubles competition, Mans Dahlberg/Jangjun Kim beat Blake Hilsen/Eyal Shumilov (6–4), while Dylan Dietrich/Andres Santamarta Roig triumphed over Ilyas Fahim/Patrik Jurina by the same margin.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will await its seeding for the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships scheduled from April 14–19 in Cary, North Carolina.
