Virginia Tech men’s tennis lost to No. 41 Miami, 4-0, on Mar. 27 in Coral Gables, Florida.

The match was part of the Hokies’ ongoing schedule and showed the team facing a ranked opponent away from home.

Drew Fishback and Frank Thompson started strong for Virginia Tech with a win at Court No. 3 doubles, finishing their set 6-3. Despite this early success, Virginia Tech lost the overall doubles point as Miami secured victories on other courts.

In singles play, sophomore Blake Hilsen took an initial lead by winning his first set on Court No. 5 but was unable to maintain momentum as Miami won three consecutive singles matches to clinch the overall victory. Eyal Shumilov pushed his match into a third set with scores of 5-7 and 6-4 before play concluded due to the team result being decided. Thompson also held an advantage in his second set (6-7 [3-7], 5-1) when competition ended.

The Hokies are scheduled to continue their weekend series in Florida with a match against No. 50 Florida State on Sunday at noon.
