Virginia Tech men’s basketball lost 95-89 in overtime against Wake Forest in the opening round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on March 10.

The loss ends Virginia Tech’s run in the tournament after a closely contested game that saw both teams exchanging leads and momentum. The Hokies managed to erase a five-point deficit late in regulation, tying the game at 73 and forcing overtime.

Ben Hammond led Virginia Tech with a standout performance, playing 40 minutes and scoring 23 points while shooting 75 percent from three-point range. He also contributed defensively with two steals and a block. Jailen Bedford added to the effort by scoring 11 points in the second half and collecting a season-high eight rebounds.

Wake Forest’s Myles Colvin was instrumental for his team, making five of seven shots from the field and converting all six free throws. Colvin finished with 18 points, including seven during overtime. Antonio Dorn provided support off the bench for Virginia Tech, achieving career highs with eight rebounds, two blocks, three assists, and adding eight points.

The Hokies started Ben Hammond, Jailen Bedford, Neoklis Avdalas, Tobi Lawal, and Christian Gurdak—marking their tenth different starting lineup this season. Tobi Lawal scored 12 points for his twelfth double-digit game against conference opponents this year. Jaden Schutt contributed by hitting three three-pointers and making all six free throws to finish with 15 points.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will regroup after their tournament exit as they reflect on individual performances and prepare for future seasons.
