Virginia Tech women’s lacrosse lost their final regular-season game to the twentieth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers, 13-10, according to an April 16 announcement. The defeat leaves the Hokies with a record of nine wins and eight losses overall, and three wins and seven losses in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
The outcome is significant as it concludes the team’s regular season and affects their standing within the conference. It also impacts the Commonwealth Clash series between Virginia Tech and Virginia.
The match began with Mia Pozzi scoring for the Hokies four and a half minutes into play. However, Virginia responded quickly by scoring three goals within two and a half minutes. In the second quarter, Sarah Murrell, Lauren Render, Colleen Thieke, and Reese Wallich each scored for Virginia Tech, giving them a brief lead at 6-4. The Cavaliers answered by closing out the first half on a three-goal run to take a one-goal advantage at halftime.
During the third quarter, both teams added goals until they were tied at ten going into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, Virginia held Virginia Tech scoreless while adding three more goals themselves to secure victory in this installment of the Commonwealth Clash.
Goalkeeper Malie Follet recorded seven saves during the match for Virginia Tech.
