Virginia Tech women’s lacrosse lost to the tenth-ranked Clemson Tigers 17-9, according to a March 28 report from the team.

The game saw Virginia Tech struggle early, not scoring until nearly the end of the first quarter. The Hokies trailed significantly at halftime but managed a late rally led by senior Lauren Render.

Mia Pozzi assisted on Virginia Tech’s opening goal, connecting with Render for their first score about twelve minutes into play. In the second quarter, freshman Catherine Karman scored her first career goal after converting an eight-meter opportunity following a Clemson foul. Despite these efforts, Virginia Tech was held scoreless for the rest of the half and went into halftime down 10-2.

Momentum shifted slightly in the third quarter as Reese Wallich and Render each found the net for Virginia Tech. The fourth quarter featured a strong performance from Render, who scored four goals in that period alone—bringing her total to six goals for the game. This marked her third career game with six or more goals. Maggie Flanagan added another late goal for Virginia Tech before time expired.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will return home for a midweek matchup against East Carolina on Tuesday, March 31. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with coverage available through ACCNX.
