Virginia Tech’s women’s lacrosse team defeated the California Golden Bears 10-5 on April 11, improving their overall record to 9-7 and their Atlantic Coast Conference standing to 3-6.

The match began with a slow start for the Hokies, as Sarah Murrell scored the team’s only goal in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Murrell added another goal, while Lauren Render and Maggie Flanagan each found the net. Virginia Tech led at halftime with a score of 4-3.

Momentum shifted further in favor of Virginia Tech during the third quarter when they shut out Cal and scored five unanswered goals. Render secured her sixth hat trick of the season and also scored the final goal for her team. Flanagan, Murrell, and Mia Pozzi each contributed two goals apiece, while five different players recorded an assist.

Goalkeeper Malie Follet played a key role by making 12 saves—her sixth game this season with double-digit saves.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will return home to Thompson Field for their last regular-season game against their Commonwealth rival, the University of Virginia Cavaliers. The match is scheduled for Thursday, April 16 at 6 p.m., with coverage available through ACCNX.
