The No. 10/11 Virginia Tech Hokies softball team defeated Liberty University 9-0 in a midweek game on April 15 at Liberty Softball Stadium.

The win is significant for the Hokies as it marks their eighth shutout victory of the season and extends their winning streak against Liberty to nine games. The result also improves Virginia Tech’s all-time record against the Flames to 45-16.

Three Hokies players hit home runs during the game. Addison Foster started with a leadoff double, followed by Jordan Lynch hitting her 13th home run of the season to give Virginia Tech an early lead. Lynch later recorded her third RBI of the day with her team-leading 16th double, bringing Foster home again in the second inning.

In the fifth inning, Nora Abromavage hit her own 13th home run of the year, and Rache Castine added an RBI single. The scoring continued in the seventh when Gaby Mizelle hit her first career grand slam and sixth home run overall, after Blackwell singled and both Yaeger and Castine reached base.

Pitchers Bree Carrico and Avery Layton combined for a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts. Carrico improved to a perfect record of 12-0 this season while Layton earned her first career save.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech (37-6, 11-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) will return to Blacksburg for an ACC series against Georgia Tech from April 17 to April 19 at Tech Softball Park. The games are scheduled to be televised on ACC Network and ACC Network Extra.
