Virginia Tech was eliminated from the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship after a 10-4 loss to second-seeded North Carolina on May 22. The game took place at Truist Field in Charlotte, where Virginia Tech managed three home runs but could not overcome North Carolina’s offense.

The loss means Virginia Tech, seeded seventh in the tournament, exits with a season record of 30-24. The team briefly led during the third inning when Ethan Gibson and Henry Cooke hit back-to-back home runs, forcing All-ACC First Team pitcher Jason DeCaro out of the game after just over three innings. In the fifth inning, Ethan Ball added a solo home run—his third of the championship—which tied a program record for most home runs in an ACC tournament week.

Despite trailing only by one run at midgame and keeping close through eight innings, Virginia Tech saw North Carolina extend its lead with four additional runs late in the game. Jake Schaffner led UNC’s offense with two hits and four RBIs, while teammates Owen Hull and Macon Winslow contributed multiple RBIs as well.

With their conference championship hopes ended, Virginia Tech now awaits potential selection for the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. The selection show is scheduled for Monday, May 25 at noon Eastern Time. If selected, it would be their first NCAA appearance since winning the Blacksburg Regional in 2022.
