Virginia Tech defeated Virginia 5-2 on April 11 to even the softball series at Palmer Park in Charlottesville. The win brings Virginia Tech’s record to 35-6 overall and 10-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Virginia falls to 33-7 overall and 10-6 in conference play.

The game saw all nine Hokies reach base, with the team collecting a total of ten hits. Bree Carrico earned her eleventh win of the season, pitching a complete game with five strikeouts and allowing only three hits.

Virginia Tech took an early lead in the first inning after Addison Foster singled, stole second base, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a throwing error. The Hokies extended their lead in the second inning when Michelle Chatfield hit a two-run single following back-to-back singles from Foster and Jordan Lynch. Annika Rohs added another run with an RBI single in the third inning before Foster contributed a sacrifice fly.

Virginia responded with runs in the second and fifth innings but was limited by Carrico’s pitching throughout the game. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Nora Abromavage made a diving catch down the left field line for the final out, securing Virginia Tech’s victory.

Game notes indicate that this marks Virginia Tech’s fifty-seventh win against Virginia in their all-time matchups. The team has now recorded double-digit hits for the twenty-sixth time this year and has outhit its opponent in thirty-eight of forty-one games played so far this season.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will face Virginia again on Sunday for the series finale at Palmer Park. The game is scheduled for broadcast on ACC Network.
