Virginia Tech earned its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2022 during the 2026 baseball season, finishing with a 30-26 overall record and a .500 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play, according to a June 1 summary from the program.
The Hokies secured seventh place in the ACC and received a first-round bye in the conference tournament before advancing to the quarterfinals. Their performance led to an at-large selection as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional, marking Virginia Tech’s twelfth appearance on the national stage and second under head coach John Szefc.
Offensively, freshman infielder Ethan Ball was named to both the ACC All-Freshman Team and NCAA Los Angeles Regional All-Tournament Team after recording 18 doubles, 17 home runs, and a .660 slugging percentage. Junior Pete Daniel led Virginia Tech with a .335 batting average while Ethan Gibson finished at .329. Senior catcher Henry Cooke posted a .347 average during May. The team set season highs for runs (22), hits (28), and RBIs (20) during ACC Tournament play and hit three home runs against nationally ranked North Carolina.
On the mound, Brett Renfrow anchored the pitching staff with an All-ACC Second Team selection, posting a 5-4 record alongside a 4.64 ERA and tallying 88 strikeouts. A highlight of Virginia Tech’s year came on April 14, when five pitchers combined for a no-hitter against Radford—the sixth such achievement in program history and first since 2000—which helped spark their late-season push toward postseason qualification.
Virginia Tech closed out its campaign by playing competitive games throughout May against one of college baseball’s toughest schedules. With several young players gaining postseason experience, another NCAA appearance marked progress for Szefc’s program as it aims for continued growth.
