The Virginia Tech track and field team achieved several personal bests and set new records at the UVA Grand Prix in Charlottesville on April 3. The event saw standout performances from both the women’s and men’s teams, with multiple podium finishes across a range of disciplines.
The competition was significant for Virginia Tech as athletes moved up in the program’s all-time rankings. Katie Bohlke won the women’s 1,500 meters with a personal-best time of 4:16.03, earning her eighth place on Virginia Tech’s all-time list. She also finished third in the 800 meters with another personal best. Kaitlyn Cook secured victory in the triple jump with a mark of 13.31 meters, which now ranks fourth all-time at Virginia Tech.
Mariana Pestana captured first place in the women’s hammer throw with a personal-best distance of 66.50 meters, maintaining her No. 4 position on the school’s all-time list. Katrin Brzyszkowska continued her strong season by winning the shot put for a second consecutive meet.
On the men’s side, Roan Kelly broke both meet and facility records by winning the 3,000 meters in 8:06.29. Calvin Meyer led his teammates to first place in the men’s 400 meters while Evan Taylor took home his first event title this year by winning the men’s 110-meter hurdles.
Other notable results included Joseph Rozynski earning his first career podium finish by placing second in the men’s 100 meters and Nathaniel Curtiss claiming victory in high jump with a leap of two meters—his first win this season.
Looking ahead, Virginia Tech’s pole vault group will conclude their weekend competing at both Texas Relays in Austin and Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos.
