Virginia Tech Athletics announced on May 29 adjustments to its future football series with Maryland. The two schools have mutually agreed to cancel the Sept. 18, 2027, game in Blacksburg and the Sept. 16, 2028, contest in College Park.

Virginia Tech will retain the September 19, 2026, road contest at Maryland in College Park and the September 15, 2029, home matchup in Blacksburg.

“These adjustments reflect our commitment to building a schedule that best serves Virginia Tech football and our fans,” said Director of Athletics Whit Babcock. “We look forward to two great matchups in 2026 and 2029.”

The changes are intended to provide Virginia Tech with greater flexibility in future non-conference scheduling while creating opportunities to add home games in upcoming seasons, generate additional revenue, and align with the Atlantic Coast Conference’s current scheduling model.

“We’re pleased to keep the 2026 and 2029 games with Maryland on the schedule,” said Head Coach James Franklin. “It’s a good regional matchup for our players and fans, and these adjustments give us valuable flexibility as we continue to position our program for long-term success.”

Virginia Tech and Maryland have met on the gridiron thirty-two times since their first meeting in 1919.
