Virginia Tech adds Lamija Avdic to women’s tennis transfer class

Lamija Avdic will join the Virginia Tech Hokies women’s tennis team, the program announced on May 26. Avdic comes to Virginia Tech after three years at Seattle University, where she played as the No. 1 in both singles and doubles.

During her time at Seattle University, Avdic posted a 25-16 dual record in singles and a 29-11 dual record in doubles. She earned Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors in 2025 and was named WAC Freshman of the Year in 2024. Her achievements also include selection to the All-WAC First Team and All-WAC Doubles Second Team in 2025, as well as All-WAC Second Team honors in 2024.

Avdic participated in national tournaments such as the ITA All-American Championship and ITA Collegiate Masters Championship during her collegiate career. She received Doubles Player of the Week recognition three times and Singles Player of the Week once.

Head Coach Terry Ann Zawacki-Holdren said, “We are thrilled to announce the signing of Lamija Avdic! A highly talented and accomplished player, Lamija brings experience, positivity, and a team-first mentality to our program. Her strong presence on the court and dedication as a student-athlete make her a tremendous addition to our team. We’re excited to see the impact she will make both on and off the court.”

Avdic is originally from Kirkland, Washington, where she attended Connections Academy before joining Seattle University.
