New recognition award for administrative and professional faculty

3

Virginia Tech issued the following announcement on March 4

Virginia Tech offers multiple award programs to recognize faculty and staff for their commitment to the university and community, new ideas, and teamwork. In the university’s ongoing efforts to recognize our employees, it is announcing an annual award program for administrative and professional (A/P) faculty. This important segment of our employee population includes approximately 2,100 employees. This new award adds to our recognition programs by honoring A/P faculty contributions to the university.

“Virginia Tech continues to make strides as a talent destination,” said Chris Kiwus, interim senior vice president and chief business officer. “This new awards platform — and the opportunity to celebrate our dedicated A/P faculty — is another exciting step forward in our efforts to develop, retain, and attract top-notch employees.”

“Our A/P faculty are critically important to the success of our academic and research programs, the services we provide for students, and our ability to achieve our goals and fulfill our land-grant mission,” said Executive Vice President and Provost Cyril Clarke. “This award will recognize and celebrate highly valued members of our university community and the roles that they play in supporting nearly every aspect of Virginia Tech’s academic mission.”

The A/P faculty award formally recognizes the extraordinary contributions, accomplishments, and consistent excellence in the performance of a job, single incident, or heroic act of A/P faculty at the university. The recognition program will highlight the integral roles that A/P faculty hold as they lead and manage through a variety of positions, including architects, coaches, development officers, engineers, Extension agents, lawyers, librarians, physicians, and professionals in finance, human resources, information technology, public relations, and student and academic affairs.

The program includes three individual awards in the amount of $2,000 per award and one team award in the amount of $2,000, split among team members. To qualify for a team award, the team must include at least one A/P faculty member.

“We are pleased to offer this new award to specifically recognize the many contributions of our A/P faculty," said Bryan Garey, vice president for human resources. “All of our faculty and staff are valued in service of Virginia Tech’s mission, and this new award allows us to spotlight key contributions of our A/P faculty, both as individuals and as part of high-performing teams.”

“It's exciting to be a part of the kickoff for this new award, and I look forward to awarding our first winners in the coming months," said Holli Gardner Drewry, digital content strategist for Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies and the first president of Virginia Tech’s newly established A/P faculty senate.

Nominations for the A/P faculty award are currently being accepted online until 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 29. Winners will be announced before the end of the academic year.
