George Mason University Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 14
The George Mason University wrestling team defeated VMI 31-8 Friday night from Cormack Hall in a non-conference match. The Patriots improve to 6-3.
Mason earned wins in eight matches, including a forfeit in the 125-pound match. Grad student Alex Madrigal (14-2) earned his third fall (3:36) of the season with a win against Seth Fillers at 149 pounds. Michael Rapuano (133) and Kaden Cassidy (141) each earned major decisions against the Keydets. Freshman Logan Messer (174) edged Jon Hoover, 3-1, to improve to 19-4 in his inaugural season.
The Patriots' next match is Saturday at No. 10 Virginia Tech starting at 4 p.m.
