Getting Scary on the Huckleberry—Oct. 30

Scarry

Town of Christiansburg recently issued the following announcement.

Christiansburg Parks and Recreation invites you to the Recreation Center on Oct. 30 for its annual Getting Scary on the Huckleberry! This event includes a Truck or Treat from 8 -11 a.m. and a 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m.

Come dressed up in your favorite costume and ready to have fun! Trucks from Christiansburg Fire, Police, Public Works and Rescue will be stationed at the Recreation Center for kids (and kids at heart!) to look at and touch. We’ll also have arts and craft, games, and Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library will be at the event.

Admission to Truck or Treat is free, and participating organizations will be handing out candy. The 5K Run/Walk will start at 9 a.m. Race registration for the 5K is $30, if received by Oct. 14, and $35 if received after Oct. 14. Race-day registration is allowed, but we strongly encourage you to register before the day of the race. Race-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 8:30 a.m. No animals are permitted in the race. Strollers must start at the back.

Awards and prize money will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place male and female finishers. Medals will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each age group. Don't forget your costumes because there will be awards given for those, too! There will also be a free, one-mile Kid's Fun Run.

The race will begin at the Christiansburg Recreation Center. This is an out and back course, please visit our website for course map, https://www.christiansburg.org/.../Huckleberry-Trail-5K....

As an added bonus, Parks and Recreation staff will be cooking up their famous pumpkin pancakes for race participants! Results will be posted at www.christiansburg.org/parksandrecreation the Monday after the race.
