Parks and Recreation Revitalization Project Update

Park 11

Town on Pearisburg issued the following announcement on July 21

Thank you for your kind donations and support for the Pearisburg Parks and Recreation Revitalization Project. To date, the project account has received $33,660.10 from donations and fundraisers. This is a tremendous accomplishment. The Town Council sincerely thanks everyone who has volunteered their time and effort raising funds and awareness of the project. The Town of Pearisburg, in turn, has contributed $47,953.00 to the project account. The current balance of the account is $75,292.83.

Improving and increasing access to the Town’s recreation facilities is one of the primary strategic objectives of the Parks and Recreation Revitalization Project. Toward that end, the Town is finalizing plans to begin grading and installing an underdrain system in the large field adjacent to the Community Center. Improving the grading, field grass, and water drainage capacity will improve the playing surface and reduce time lost due to rain events. Reducing time lost due to water on the field will increase access for youth baseball and softball players. Town staff anticipate completing this work in the coming Fall and Winter of 2021. We are also completing plans to renovate and outfit the former PATs Building located on the site to serve as the new concession stand. The new concession stand will be more accessible and better serve the community during public events. Both projects are financially feasible and achievable as part of the Parks and Recreation Revitalization Project.

It is our goal to continuously improve our capacity to provide the best services and programs possible to Town residents. These projects work toward that end without financially overburdening taxpayers, residents, and participants in Town programs
