“Throughout the pandemic WCC has been committed to the safety of every member of the WCC community,” says Dr. Dean Sprinkle, WCC President. “WCC is also committed to meeting the higher education needs of our region.”
Measures will continue to be in place to ensure the health and safety of all students, faculty, and staff. Buildings will be open with established waiting areas that ensure that social distancing guidance can be achieved. The offices will be opened with limited staffing. Summer classes will continued to be offered online with the exception of Health, Occupational, and Workforce programs that have already been offered in-person and will be following CDC and VDH guidance regarding social distancing and masks.
On August 1, WCC will bring the majority of staff back from teleworking to normal office operations. Many Fall 2021 classes will begin to transition back to more in-person class offerings, with many being offered as a “hyflex” option that allows students to attend the class partially in-person and partially virtually. Hyflex classes are offered much like traditional in-person classes with the addition of cameras in the classroom to allow students to connect to the live lecture virtually or to watch the recorded lecture later, when it is convenient for the student.
WCC will not offer events through the Summer and Fall semesters that invite external constituents to attend. These events include but are not limited to WCC Concert Band, WCC Choir, Bluegrass and Old-Time Jamboree, Western Film Series, Alumni Picnics, and other similar type events. Indoor facilities will not be available for external groups until the end of July at which time this decision will be reevaluated.
All or parts of the reopening plan are subject to change in relation to the guidance given by the Governor’s office, CDC, VDH, and the local health department.
Wytheville Community College was established in 1963 as a 2-year branch of Virginia Tech and later joined the Virginia Community College System in 1967. WCC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. WCC offers quality academic programs taught by caring faculty. With available financial aid and scholarships, students can attend without accumulating student loan debt. WCC is the smart choice to save money, stay local, and either complete career training in less than 2 years or launch into a 4-year degree with guaranteed admission to one of many Virginia colleges or universities.
