Georgia Simonsen has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week after two strong performances to close out the regular season, according to an announcement from the conference office.

Simonsen scored a career-high 24 points in Radford’s win over Presbyterian, converting 12 of her 16 shots. She followed that with a 20-point, nine-rebound game against Gardner-Webb, including five key rebounds in the fourth quarter that contributed to Radford’s victory. This helped the team achieve its first 20-win season since 2018-19. Simonsen is also noted as being the first Radford freshman since at least the 2011-12 season to score more than 20 points in consecutive games.

This recognition marks Simonsen’s seventh Freshman of the Week honor this season. The total matches Ashlyn Traylor-Walker’s single-season program record set during the 2022-23 campaign. The award has been given out by the program since the 1990-91 season.

The Highlanders will next compete in the Air Force Reserves Big South Tournament held in Johnson City, Tennessee. Their opening game is scheduled for Thursday, March 5 at 6:00 p.m., where they will face Charleston Southern in the quarterfinals.
