Brett Renfrow set a personal record with 12 strikeouts on March 28 as the Virginia Tech baseball team defeated Stanford, 10-2, at English Field. The win allowed the Hokies to even their weekend series against the Cardinal.

Renfrow pitched seven and one-third innings, marking his longest start since his Atlantic Coast Conference debut in March 2024. He held Stanford to one run on two hits and achieved his third career double-digit strikeout game, reaching his 200th career strikeout during the fourth inning. This victory was also Renfrow’s first winning decision in exactly one year.

Virginia Tech’s offense contributed throughout the lineup. Henry Cooke hit a three-run home run in the second inning, while Ethan Gibson added a two-run homer in the fourth, giving the Hokies an early lead. Owen Petrich drove in two runs with a single during the fifth inning after Sam Gates and Hudson Lutterman executed a double steal attempt.

The Hokies’ bottom half of the lineup accounted for nine of their ten runs batted in and produced five hits along with four walks. In total, seven starters had at least one hit as Virginia Tech outhit Stanford nine to three.

Stanford’s Rintaro Sasaki provided an early highlight for his team with a solo home run off Renfrow in the third inning—the Cardinal’s only score until late in the game. Chase Swift closed out for Virginia Tech by recording five consecutive outs and adding three more strikeouts to bring the pitching staff’s total to fifteen for the day.

Virginia Tech will conclude its three-game series against Stanford on Sunday, March 29 at English Field.
