The Radford Highlanders women’s basketball team will host Morehead State in the first round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) at the Dedmon Center on March 20. This marks the first time since moving to NCAA Division I in 1984 that a postseason basketball game will be played at the venue.
The event is significant for both the team and the university, as it highlights a milestone in Radford’s athletic history. The Highlanders secured their spot in the WNIT by finishing second in the Big South during the regular season, earning an automatic bid.
“Our program is excited to compete in the WNIT,” Head Coach Mike McGuire said after bracket release. “We understand that playing in March is a privilege but one we believe this team has earned. We cannot thank our institution and administration enough for allowing us to host a first-round contest in the Dedmon Center. This is a great opportunity for Radford and let’s work together to make this a home game advantage for our ladies.”
Tickets for Friday’s game go on sale at 5:00 p.m., with prices starting at $10 for adults and $5 for youth aged 12 and under. Reserved seating costs $15 for adults and $10 for youth, while courtside seats are available for $35, subject to availability.
This appearance marks Radford women’s basketball’s first postseason since participating in the NCAA Tournament in 2019. The team’s current total of 22 wins ranks as the seventh-most victories in program history. Coach McGuire reached his own milestone earlier this season by becoming Radford’s first basketball coach to achieve 200 wins.
The upcoming matchup represents Radford women’s basketball’s eleventh postseason appearance overall and its seventh time competing in the WNIT.
