Radford University Athletics announced on May 12 that its nearly 300 student-athletes achieved a department-wide grade point average of 3.45 during the Spring 2026 semester.

The academic performance reflects continued success for Radford, with fifteen out of sixteen athletics programs earning a GPA of at least 3.0. A total of 221 student-athletes earned a GPA above 3.0, while more than half reached higher marks: 154 had at least a 3.5, and over one hundred exceeded a GPA of 3.75. Fifty-two student-athletes earned perfect scores with a GPA of 4.0.

Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services Maggie Hinson said, “This spring term was an eventful one with over 60 student-athletes graduating, numerous community service activities and multiple awards given out at the Radford University and Big South Conference level.” Hinson also said, “I am incredibly proud of how hard Radford student-athletes work in the classroom. They go above and beyond the basic expectations and know the value of a college degree. We can’t wait to get back to work with our returners and incoming class this August!”

Women’s golf led all teams with an average GPA of 3.85, followed by volleyball at 3.66, cross country at 3.65, women’s soccer at 3.63, softball at 3.6, and women’s lacrosse at 3.51—all surpassing team GPAs of over 3.5 on the women’s side.

Among men’s teams, golf posted a department-best GPA of 3.79—an increase from their previous fall mark—and was second among all teams overall; baseball finished strong with a team average GPA of 3.4 while men’s cross country and track & field reported an average GPA of about 3.3.

Academic achievements were also recognized individually as eight Highlanders received all-academic honors: Angelina Nice (women’s basketball), Brennan Rigsby Jr (men’s basketball), Leah Moye (women’s indoor track & field), Liam McDonald (men’s indoor track & field), Macy Johnson (women’s golf), Kieran McCarthy (men’s golf), Mady Cheney (women’s lacrosse) and Amanda Lee (softball). Macy Johnson received her second consecutive Big South Scholar-Athlete award; Hayat Khan had previously earned this recognition in men’s cross country last fall.
