Virginia Tech women’s lacrosse defeated East Carolina 14-10 on March 31, moving to an 8-6 record ahead of their final Atlantic Coast Conference matchups.

The game began with quick scoring from both teams, including three goals in a span of just ninety seconds. Reese Wallich opened the scoring for the Hokies with her fifth game-opening goal this season. Ally Phalines followed with two consecutive goals. Despite these early successes, Virginia Tech trailed 5-4 at the end of the first quarter after a push by East Carolina.

In the second quarter, Virginia Tech held East Carolina scoreless while scoring four goals themselves, marking the third time this season they have shut out an opponent in a single quarter. The momentum continued into the second half as the Hokies scored four more unanswered goals. Although East Carolina managed three late goals in the final eight minutes, they were unable to close the gap.

Phalines achieved her first career hat trick during this match. Catherine Karman, Lauren Render, and Wallich each contributed two goals apiece for Virginia Tech. In goal, Malie Follet recorded seven saves—her eleventh game this season with five or more saves.

Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will remain in Blacksburg to face No. 13 Notre Dame on Saturday, April 4 at 1 p.m., with coverage available through ACCNX.
