Virginia Tech defeated Radford, 13-5, at Williams Field at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium on March 31. Junior Nick Locurto led the Hokies with his first career multi-homer game, going 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, two home runs, three runs scored and three RBIs.

The win was marked by strong offensive performances throughout the lineup. Locurto’s home runs—a two-run shot in the third inning and a solo blast in the fifth—followed earlier solo home runs from Ethan Gibson and Treyson Hughes. Virginia Tech (14-13) built an early lead by scoring eight runs through three innings on five extra-base hits.

Ethan Ball started the third inning with a double before Henry Cooke hit a two-RBI double to right center field. Locurto then followed with his first home run of the game to extend Virginia Tech’s lead to eight runs. On the mound, right-hander Aiden Robertson faced minimal trouble through two innings but gave up several hits and was replaced as Radford closed within an 8-3 score line.

Locurto’s second homer opened another rally for Virginia Tech in the fifth inning. Sam Gates singled after Locurto and eventually scored on passed balls by Radford catcher Tyler Sparrer; Gibson also scored during this sequence following an RBI sacrifice bunt from Hughes. The Hokies’ bullpen combined for strong relief work—retiring ten consecutive batters from the third into seventh innings—and finished with eleven strikeouts while allowing only two hits after Robertson exited.

Eight of nine offensive starters for Virginia Tech recorded at least one hit and one run each. Despite late scoring from Radford in the ninth inning that capitalized on walks issued by Hokie relievers, Virginia Tech maintained its comfortable margin to secure victory.

Virginia Tech is set to begin a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series against Miami starting Friday, April 3 at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables.
