Virginia Tech athletes delivered strong performances at the Spec Towns Invite and Oklahoma Throws Series World Invite, according to an April 10 update from the program. The men’s pole vault team swept the podium, while several individuals climbed up Virginia Tech’s all-time leaderboard with new personal bests.
The achievements highlight progress for both men’s and women’s track and field competitors. Yekini Bowen advanced to third in school history for discus with a throw of 60.41 meters at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invite. Meanwhile, Katrin Brzyszkowska moved into fifth place all-time in women’s discus after recording a personal best of 50.76 meters.
At the Spec Towns Invitational, Conner McClure claimed first place in men’s pole vault by clearing 5.53 meters, which was also his season-best mark. Maddox Hamm finished second with an identical height, and Layne Studer took third with a clearance of 5.23 meters.
In women’s competition, Chiara Sistermann secured second place in pole vault by clearing 4.31 meters. In other field events, Alex Hoffman reached a personal record in hammer throw with a distance of 60.74 meters.
Decathletes Nate Paris and Stuart Pirtle achieved several top finishes across multiple events during day one of competition at the Spec Towns Invite; Paris earned first place in both the 100-meter dash (10.58 seconds) and long jump (7.12 meters), while Pirtle posted a personal best time of 14.44 seconds to win the decathlon’s 110-meter hurdles event.
The Hokies are scheduled to continue competing at both meets tomorrow.
