The Hokies concluded the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships on March 28, finishing in 11th place as a team. The competition saw the team earn three First Team All-American honors, 19 Honorable Mention All-American honors, and set five new school records.
This result is significant for the program, reflecting both individual excellence and collective achievement at a national level. Several athletes contributed to these results with standout performances in both individual events and relays.
Brendan Whitfield was among the top performers for the Hokies, setting an individual school record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:31.49. Whitfield also contributed to three relay school records during the meet. His efforts earned him First Team All-American honors in both the 50 freestyle (18.66) and the 100 freestyle (41.22), along with an Honorable Mention All-American honor in the 200 freestyle.
Eli Martin also delivered a notable performance by earning First Team All-American honors for his swim in the 200 breaststroke (1:52.04). Other swimmers who received Honorable Mention All-American recognition included Levente Balogh, Oscar Bilbao, Landon Gentry, Andy Roose, George Mathew, Nuñez, Aranda, and Hayon across various events such as relays and individual races.
The Hokies established new school records in several categories: Balogh, Martin, Gentry, and Whitfield set records in both medley relays; Whitfield led record-setting efforts in two relay events; Balogh broke a record in the 200 backstroke; while Martin achieved one of his fastest times ever recorded by a Hokie swimmer.
Looking ahead after this strong showing at nationals, members of Virginia Tech’s swimming program will likely aim to build on these achievements during future seasons.
