The No. 11/12 Virginia Tech Hokies softball team defeated Clemson 9-1 on Apr. 3, evening their series with a run-rule victory at Tech Softball Park.

The win brings the Hokies’ record to 32-5 overall and 8-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while Clemson falls to 25-14 overall and 7-7 in conference games. The result highlights the Hokies’ strong season performance and sets up a decisive final game in the series.

Pitcher Bree Carrico remained undefeated this season, improving her record to 10-0 after allowing just three hits and pitching a complete game. Offensively, six different Hokies recorded hits during the contest. Kylie Aldridge and Michelle Chatfield each hit home runs, contributing significantly to the team’s victory.

Virginia Tech took an early lead as Jordan Lynch scored on a double steal attempt in the first inning. Annika Rohs added an RBI single in the second inning, bringing home Lily Pallante for another run. In the third inning, Michelle Chatfield hit a three-run home run after Nora Abromavage walked and Zoe Yaeger singled, extending Virginia Tech’s lead to five runs.

Clemson managed one run with a solo home run but could not close the gap as Virginia Tech scored four more times in the fifth inning. Aldridge began that rally with her fourth homer of the season before Addison Foster drove in two runs with a double following three consecutive walks by Clemson pitchers. Abromavage later drew an RBI walk with bases loaded for the ninth run.

According to game notes provided by Virginia Tech, this was their fifteenth run-rule win of the year and their twenty-fourth game recording double-digit hits. The team has outhit opponents in thirty-five out of thirty-seven games so far this season.

The Hokies will conclude their series against Clemson on Saturday at Tech Softball Park.
