The Virginia Tech baseball team achieved a milestone on April 14 when five pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter against Radford, resulting in a 14-0 victory at English Field. The game was shortened to seven innings due to the run rule.
This marks only the sixth no-hitter in program history and the second time multiple pitchers have shared the feat. It is also Virginia Tech’s first no-hitter since May 13, 2000, and its first combined effort since March 6, 1996.
Madden Clement started for the Hokies and retired the first six batters he faced, showing improvement after returning from injury earlier this season. Ethan Grim followed by striking out three consecutive hitters in the third inning. The pitching staff allowed just one base runner—Junho Son, who walked in the fourth—but catcher Henry Cooke helped erase him with a double play.
Brody Roe pitched a clean fifth inning before Josh Berzonski took over for the sixth. Anderson French contributed defensively by recovering a dropped third strike and completing an out at first base. Danny Lazaro closed out the seventh inning with two strikeouts after shortstop Ethan Gibson made a key defensive play to secure an out on a ground ball up the middle.
Offensively, Sam Grube led Virginia Tech with three hits including two doubles and two runs batted in. Hudson Lutterman added four RBIs while Nick Locurto went two-for-four with both a double and home run. The Hokies scored four runs in the second inning and piled on seven more during an eleven-batter fifth inning that pushed them into run rule territory.
Virginia Tech will begin its next series against Pitt at English Field starting Friday, April 17.
