Delegate Chris Obenshain, a Republican elected in 2024 to represent Virginia’s 41st House district, has voiced strong criticism on social media regarding the ongoing redistricting process in Richmond. In a series of posts made between February 5 and February 8, 2026, Obenshain accused state lawmakers of manipulating electoral boundaries for political gain.

On February 5, Obenshain wrote, “What’s happening in Richmond right now is the exact reason why 66% of Virginia voters were wise to eliminate gerrymandering and take these decisions out of the hands of self-serving politicians. On February 8, Obenshain cited an article from The Washington Post and stated: ‘”Democrats in Richmond are trying to effectively disenfranchise millions of Virginians by redrawing Congressional maps to give themselves 10 of the commonwealth’s 11 House seats” Props to the Wapo for calling a spade a spade when it comes to gerrymandering in Virginia.’

Obenshain succeeded Eileen Filler-Corn as representative of Virginia’s 41st House district after winning election in November 2024. His comments come amid renewed debate over legislative redistricting in Virginia—a topic that has drawn widespread attention since voters approved measures aimed at curbing partisan gerrymandering several years ago.
