Bree Carrico and Emma Mazzarone of Virginia Tech were recognized on Mar. 24 with Atlantic Coast Conference weekly honors for their performances in women’s softball.

The awards highlight the players’ strong contributions during recent games, with Carrico named ACC Freshman of the Week and Mazzarone earning ACC Pitcher of the Week. Such recognition reflects their impact on Virginia Tech’s season.

Carrico also received D1 Softball National Freshman of the Week honors after a series of standout pitching performances. She secured three wins over 11 innings, striking out 16 batters while holding opponents to a .029 batting average and allowing only one hit. In a game against Longwood, Carrico recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts in four innings without giving up any hits. She continued her form against NC State, pitching six innings with just one hit allowed and six strikeouts in an 11-3 victory. In another close contest against NC State, she entered during a tie game in the seventh inning and retired three batters to set up a walk-off win for Virginia Tech.

Mazzarone contributed significantly as well, pitching 11 innings across her appearances while surrendering only four hits and recording 17 strikeouts. She threw a complete-game shutout with eight strikeouts in a 10-0 win over NC State and followed up by allowing no earned runs with nine strikeouts over six innings on Sunday. Across both games against NC State, she limited hitters to a .108 batting average.

Virginia Tech is scheduled to play Boston College from March 20-22 in Brighton, Massachusetts.
