Virginia Tech women’s basketball guard Carleigh Wenzel was named a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division I Coaches’ All-America honorable mention, the association announced on Apr. 2.
This recognition places Wenzel among the top NCAA Division I women’s basketball players as selected by coaches nationwide. The honor follows her earlier selection to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Second Team in March, underscoring her impact throughout the season.
Wenzel led Virginia Tech with an average of 15.1 points per game and contributed 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest. She shot 33.3 percent from the field, made 32.6 percent of her three-point attempts, and converted at a rate of 76.8 percent from the free throw line during the season. She reached double figures in scoring in 25 games, including seven games with at least 20 points and nine games where she recorded five or more assists.
In conference play, Wenzel increased her averages to 16.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and made an average of 2.3 three-pointers per game against ACC opponents. She scored in double figures in seventeen ACC contests—matching a school record set by Elizabeth Kitley during the previous season for most double-figure scoring performances in conference play—and delivered standout performances such as a career-high twenty-nine points at Virginia on March 1.
The WBCA serves as a professional association for coaches of women’s and girls’ basketball across all levels since its founding in nineteen eighty-one.
