Virginia Tech women’s basketball guard Carleigh Wenzel was named a finalist for the WBCA Coaches’ All-America Team, the association announced on March 18.
Wenzel is among 48 student-athletes across the country recognized for their performance during the 2025-26 season. The honor highlights her contributions to Virginia Tech and her standing among top collegiate players.
Wenzel has led Virginia Tech in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game, which ranks tenth in the Atlantic Coast Conference. She has also been effective at drawing fouls and converting free throws, shooting 77.5 percent from the line with both her makes and attempts ranking in the conference’s top five. Over the season, she recorded 25 double-digit scoring games and reached several career milestones, including joining the program’s 1,000-point club. In recent games, Wenzel averaged 23.3 points per contest and set a new program record by making 14 of her 15 free throw attempts during an ACC Tournament quarterfinal against North Carolina.
The selection process for the WBCA Coaches’ All-America Team involves NCAA Division I head coaches who are members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association nominating players from their own teams before voting within their regions. An awards committee composed of elected head coaches may select up to twelve additional at-large finalists from remaining nominees. The final ten-member team will be announced on April 2.
Looking ahead, Wenzel and Virginia Tech will begin NCAA Tournament play on Friday, March 20 at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time against Oregon in the Austin Regional. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
