Virginia Tech junior pitcher Brett Renfrow and freshman infielder Ethan Ball were recognized on May 18 with year-end All-Atlantic Coast Conference baseball honors during the conference’s postseason awards presentation in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The recognition highlights both players’ performances during the 2026 season, marking notable achievements for Virginia Tech’s baseball program. These honors reflect individual accomplishments as well as the team’s competitiveness within the ACC.
Renfrow was named to the All-ACC Second Team, his highest career honor after being selected to the Third Team in both 2024 and 2025. He posted a 5-2 record with a 4.60 earned run average over ten ACC starts, collecting 69 strikeouts in those games out of his total of 86 across fourteen starts. The right-hander had five games with eight or more strikeouts against conference opponents, including a career-high twelve strikeouts during Virginia Tech’s win over Stanford on March 28. Renfrow finished strong by winning his last four ACC outings against top-ranked NCAA Division I Baseball RPI teams while recording a low earned run average and limiting opposing hitters.
Ball was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team, becoming Virginia Tech’s first selection since Renfrow’s own freshman year in 2024. As a rookie, Ball achieved a .304 batting average and led his team in hits (58), doubles (17), home runs (13), and runs batted in (47). He started all thirty games against ACC competition and reached base in all but four league contests. Notably, he began his collegiate career with a ten-game hitting streak and hit a walk-off home run against Rutgers on February 21.
Both players are set to lead Virginia Tech into this week’s ACC Baseball Championship at Truist Field in Charlotte. The Hokies enter as the seventh seed and will begin tournament play on Wednesday, May 20 at 5 p.m., facing either Notre Dame or Clemson.
