Virginia Tech men’s basketball head coach Mike Young announced on Apr. 6 that forward Amani Hansberry will return to the team for his senior season in 2026-27.

Hansberry’s decision is significant for the Hokies as he played a key role in his first year with the team, starting all 30 games and leading Virginia Tech in scoring. He averaged 14.3 points per game and shot 49.2 percent from the field. The forward also posted four games with at least 20 points, including a season-high of 22 during an overtime win against South Carolina in the ACC/SEC Challenge.

Hansberry contributed on both ends of the court, averaging 7.4 rebounds per game, which placed him tenth among conference players. His eight double-doubles ranked fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Early in the season, he recorded four consecutive double-doubles—the most by a Hokie since 2011—and became the first player from Virginia Tech to achieve double-doubles in his first three ACC games against Virginia, Wake Forest, and Stanford.

His performances earned him postseason recognition as a first team All-East Region selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and an All-ACC Honorable Mention.

The announcement highlights Hansberry’s importance to Virginia Tech as they look ahead to next season.
