Virginia Tech forward Amani Hansberry was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) first team All-East Region on March 17. Hansberry also received All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Honorable Mention honors this postseason.
Hansberry, in his first season with the Hokies, has started all 30 games and led the team in scoring with an average of 14.3 points per game and a field goal percentage of 49.2%. He recorded four games with at least 20 points, including a season-high 22 points during Virginia Tech’s overtime win against South Carolina in the ACC/SEC Challenge. Hansberry averaged 7.4 rebounds per game, ranking tenth in the conference, and his eight double-doubles are fourth among ACC players.
Earlier in the season, Hansberry achieved four consecutive double-doubles, marking the longest such streak for a Virginia Tech player since 2011. He became the first Hokie to record a double-double in each of his first three ACC games, accomplishing this feat against Virginia, Wake Forest, and Stanford.
The NABC also announced other East District honorees alongside Hansberry on its first team: Zach Cleveland (Liberty), Thijs De Ridder (Virginia), Delrecco Gillespie (Kent State), Terrence Hill Jr. (VCU), Honor Huff (West Virginia), Tavari Johnson (Akron), Peter Suder (Miami [OH]), Malik Thomas (Virginia), and Bruce Thornton (Ohio State).
